Nursing 3 builds upon the foundational concepts and nursing principles introduced in previous nursing courses and focuses on the care of childbearing families, pediatric clients, and individuals experiencing mental health conditions. The course examines health promotion, wellness, and illness as family-centered experiences, emphasizing pregnancy and childbirth as significant life events and periods of wellness for women and their families.

Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide evidence-based nursing care to clients during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, as well as to newborns, children, and adolescents across various stages of growth and development. The course also explores the promotion of mental health and the nursing care of individuals experiencing mental illness across diverse healthcare settings.

Through classroom, and clinical learning experiences, students will apply the nursing process, clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, and patient education strategies to meet the unique needs of maternal-child and mental health populations. Emphasis is placed on family-centered care, cultural sensitivity, health promotion, safety, collaboration, and effective communication with children, adolescents, parents, caregivers, and clients experiencing mental health challenges.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to childbearing families, pediatric clients, and individuals with mental health needs while promoting optimal health outcomes and supporting patient and family well-being.
